The Eden Project Goes Even Greener with Energy Efficient PCs from Lenovo

Basingstoke, June 5, 2008 – Today, Lenovo announced that it is working with the Eden Project to provide the latest in energy-efficient PCs. With sustainability and minimising environmental impact the driving force behind The Eden Project, the unique environmental project based in Cornwall, has switched its purchasing to the ThinkCentre A61e for desktops, ThinkVision L193p and ThinkPad notebooks. Combined, this desktop PC and TFT monitor one of the most energy-efficient solutions currently available on the market.
The ThinkCentre A61e and ThinkVision L193p have both received a gold EPEAT (Electronics Product Environmental Assessment Tool) rating. Operated by the Green Electronics Council, the system is used to rate products based upon environmental attributes such as energy efficiency, materials and recyclability.
"For all purchasing at Eden, we seek to maintain a balance of environmental, financial and social impacts, which is why we were attracted to the environmental credentials of the Lenovo range" said Jon Curry, Head of ICT, Eden Project. "We had already noted that Lenovo were scoring well in Greenpeace's independent "greener electronics" ranking reports, and invited them in do some power bench marking tests. These showed a considerable saving over our existing desktop equipment."
Lenovo’s ThinkCentre A61e is the first desktop in the industry to run on the energy-efficient AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual core and AMD Sempron™ single core processors. Once the desktop is combined with the ThinkVision L193p, the solution is 57 per cent more energy-efficient than previous solutions produced by Lenovo.
“As green issues become part of the buying criteria for today’s IT managers, demands for energy efficient PCs are on the increase, “ said Alan Munro, Vice President Lenovo UK & Ireland. “The A61e and L193p offer a breakthrough in green computing, and demonstrate how Lenovo is committed to providing customers with the most secure, innovative and energy-efficient computing experience.”
